My Vision (knowledge tree)
Open My Vision from the root navigation to work on your private knowledge tree. Until you publish, only you can see it.
Publishing serializes your entire Vision branch to Shared Vision via Dashboard → Sharing — everything under Vision, including Ballot Research, becomes public. Other top-level cards outside Vision stay private. See publishing-updates.md.
Node types
Each item in the tree is one of three certainty levels:
| Type | Role |
|---|---|
| Question | What you are trying to understand or decide |
| Idea | A possible approach or explanation worth exploring |
| Claim | A specific statement you are willing to stand behind (and revise) |
Switch types from Options on any row (Certainty level at the bottom of the menu). For AI-assisted editing on a row, see tree-options-menu.md.
Structure
Your tree grows as supporting points nested under each parent — children that expand a question, idea, or claim. The Vision card is the branch you publish — the whole branch, not individual nodes you pick and choose.
Example structure:
- Vision (Question) — the branch you publish
- Idea: Build more homes near transit
- Claim: Legalize ADUs by-right citywide
- Claim: Reduce parking minimums near stations
- Idea: Keep rents stable for current residents
- Claim: Expand housing vouchers for cost-burdened renters
- Ballot Research (Question) — included when you publish
- Election branches you import
Other top-level cards (siblings of Vision on My Vision) stay private and are not part of Shared Vision.
Citations
Attach sources to claims and other points so readers can follow your evidence. On My Vision, use Add Source when editing a node. Published citations feed regional Our Media Diet analytics — see citations-and-publisher-stats.md.
Suggestions
When someone contributes to your published platform — through an open forum, a direct suggestion, or a Build on this… speed-dial action from Shared Vision — the item lands in Suggestions on My Vision (toolbar button with a badge when items are waiting). See shared-vision.md for the exact action labels by node type.
Open Suggestions to accept (adds to your tree with contributor attribution) or reject each item. See shared-vision.md and civic-listening.md for how contributions arrive.
Recycling
Recycle this point in Options moves a selected leaf to the recycling bin instead of deleting it permanently. Open Recycling from the My Vision toolbar to restore items or clear the bin.
Vision starter questions
If your Vision card is empty, Start Vision Wizard on My Vision opens the Vision Question Wizard to add starter Questions. You can rerun it from Options on the Vision card anytime — see vision-wizard.md.
