Metrics & Ranking (Leaderboards)

Symthink's rankings are designed to make civic engagement legible: not who is loudest, but whose published thinking is explored, followed, and built on by people in the same civic area.

The important framing: rankings are downstream of the published Vision branch. If your platform isn't being published and explored, there's nothing meaningful to rank.

What the leaderboard is trying to reward

Leader rank on the Thinkers tab comes from each leader's Civic Resonance — their share of qualified local engagement this month. Row metrics show participation evidence, not the rank formula:

Followers Unique residents who followed this Thinker this month (includes people who also collaborated)
Collabs Unique residents who contributed to this Thinker's platform this month
Returning Collaborators who also contributed to this same Thinker in a prior month

The arrow flow (Followers → Collabs → Returning) reflects deepening engagement. These counts feed the vitality pipeline indirectly; they are not percentages and do not map one-to-one to rank position.

These align with broader goals: clarity (platform people can navigate), responsiveness (publishing updates over time), collaboration (people contribute and build on your work), and evidence (citations make claims inspectable).

How Thinkers ranking works

Leaders at the top of the Thinkers tab earned the largest share of community engagement this month. Only leaders with meaningful engagement are eligible for a rank.

How many leaders appear ranked depends on how many visions are published in the civic area:

Fewer than 10 None — everyone appears unranked, sorted by most recent update
10–19 Top 3
20–49 Top 5
50–999 Top 10
1,000 or more Top 20

Ties go to the most recently updated vision. All other published visions appear below, sorted by most recent updates.

Your private Dashboard (Stats tab)

When you publish your Vision, Dashboard opens to the Sharing tab until you have participation counts (followers, collabs, or returning) for the current month. After that, Stats is the default. You can always switch tabs manually, or on the web open Dashboard → Stats directly.

The Stats tab shows My Vision Stats for your civic area and month. Two cards appear:

Participation Counts

Compact monthly counts in a two-column grid:

Metric Meaning
Views Unique visitors who opened your vision (including outside your civic area)
Followers Area residents who followed your vision this month (includes collaborators)
Collabs Area residents who contributed to your platform this month
Returning Collaborators who also contributed to your vision in a prior month

When enough collaborators exist, you may also see Repeat rate and Non-returning as secondary signals. Tap the info icon for definitions. Views do not affect Civic Resonance or Thinkers ranking.

Civic Resonance

Your share of qualified local engagement this month, shown as a composition bar alongside other leaders' segments. The card includes rank text (for example, Ranking: #2 · Top 5 of 24) and a month-over-month share change when available. Tap the info icon for the full Civic Resonance explanation.

Before you earn engagement, the card may show Example data so you can preview the layout.

What you can do if you're a leader

  • Publish a Vision branch that is easy to explore (readable top-level structure).
  • Add citations to claims that rely on facts, statistics, or reporting.
  • Invite people to follow questions you genuinely want feedback on.
  • Treat publishing as versioned civic accountability: "here's my best current thinking."
